- Bush Walking:
- Follow explorers along the Hume and Hovell track, walks range from a couple of hours, full day walks or even several days if you’re keen.
- Paddy’s River Falls is easily accessible and offers an easy walk to the lookout or couple of hours to walk to the base.
- Buddong Falls is a chain of waterfalls that’s worth heading bush for (no wet weather access and 4WD preferred).
- Experience some unexpected beauty that pine trees have to offer at Sugarpine walk and Pilot Hill arboretum.
- Take the Family:
- Yarrangobilly Caves offers guided and self-guided walks as well as a thermal pool.
- Have a family picnic at the Tumbarumba creekscape, enjoying the creek, playground and skate park.
- Spend an evening around the campfire.
- Go for a swim in mountain streams and dams
- Look for brumbies, tawny frogmouths and other wildlife around the retreat, or arm yourself with a torch to see the nightlife.
- Visit the Cinema café, relax in a lounge chair while enjoying dinner and a movie at the same time.
- Lose yourself in the bush
- Explore the various creek beds as you go fossicking for gemstones.
- If you have a GPS you can look for other hidden treasures as there are many Geocaches in the area waiting to be found.
- Take in the mountain scenery on canvas or on camera.
- Getting there is half the fun:
- There are numerous dirt tracks to explore with a 4WD or trailbike (registered bikes only), which can cater for both the once a year and the once a week enthusiast.
- Winding mountain roads are a motorbike riders dream and the beautiful scenery will make you want to slow down to take it all in.
- Popular destinations:
- Yarrangobilly caves, Snowy Hydro power stations, Pioneer Women’s Hut, Boggy Creek Show, Cabramurra (Australia’s highest township), cellar doors, art and woodwork galleries.
