Snowy Valleys Towns
- McPhersons Plains Alpine Retreat to Tumbarumba: Paddy’s River Falls, Henry Angel Trackhead for Hume & Hovell track, new Artists on Parade gallery (opening Dec ‘07).
- Tumbarumba to Rosewood: Pioneer Women’s Hut, Boggy Creek Show
- Rosewood to Batlow: Woodworks Gallery, apple orchards
- Batlow to McPhersons Plains Alpine Retreat (off-road dry weather only): Hume & Hovell Lookout, Buddong Falls, Paddy’s River Dam keep a look out for brumbies.
- Or Batlow back to Tumbarumba: Sugar pine walk, Pilot Hill lookout, Try blueberry pancakes at Laurel Hill and lookout for brumbies, Glenburnie vineyard, try the Cinema Café for dinner with a movie.
- Tumbarumba back to McPhersons Plains
Kosciuszko National Park Tour:
- McPhersons Plains to Cabramurra, Australia’s highest township: O’Hare’s rest area, where Sue City is now covered by Talbingo Reservoir (4WD access also available at Ravine), Tumut 2 power station, keep a lookout for Lyrebirds
- Cabramurra to Yarrangobilly Caves:Three Mile Dam, Kiandra hut and wildflowers, take a cave tour or swim in the thermal pool.
- Yarrangobilly Caves to Talbingo (birthplace of Miles Franklin): Tumut 3 Powerstation, Blowering Dam
- Talbingo back to McPhersons Plains (off-road – 4WD only in wet conditions): Buddong Falls, keep a look out for brumbies.
- Or Talbingo to Tumut: Tumut River, Fiveways Studio and Tumut & District Woodworkers Inc.
- Tumut to Batlow: Scenic mountain range views, orchards

- Khancoban to McPhersons Plains: Visit the grave of the Man from Snowy River at Corryong, see spectacular panorama views Snowy Mountains including Mt. Kosciuszko, Tooma pub, Paddy’s River.
Passing through
- Canberra National Parks Tour: Starting in Canberra spend a day exploring the Brindabella National Park, Wee Jasper, Gundagai, Tumut, Batlow and Tumbarumba. A festive dinner (maybe even a Murder Mystery night) can be waiting for you at McPhersons Plains Alpine Retreat. Wake up to a cooked breakfast before heading off back to Canberra traveling through Kosciuszko National Park, via Cabramurra and Adaminaby, and Namadgi National Park, through Tharwa.
- Snowy Valleys Way, avoid the traffic on the Hume Highway and enjoy the mountain scenery. The Snowy Valleys Way takes you off the highway at Gundagai to see the Riverina highlands with spectacular views of the Snowy Mountain Ranges, and along the Upper Murray River back to the Hume Highway south of Albury. There is plenty to see and do along the way with brochures available for whatever interests you (cf. http://www.snowyvalleysway.com.au or any of the visitor’s centres along the way). McPhersons Plains Alpine Retreat is roughly halfway along the Snowy Mountains Highway.
- Riverina Highlands tour: Starting in Wagga Wagga. Visit towns of Adelong, Tumut and Talbingo on the way to Tumut 3 Power station and Yarrangobilly Caves. Take in the beautiful scenery of the northern end of Kosciuszko National Park and stop for the night at McPhersons Plains Alpine Retreat. Then back home through Tumbarumba and Rosewood with possible stops at Paddy’s River Falls, Pioneer Women’s Museum, Boggy Creek Show and Gone Barney.
As you can see there is plenty to see and do in the area for groups of 5 to 50 or more. Our retreat staff will be happy to help you decide on tours and experiences that would best suit your groups interests and the time of year that you are coming to the area
